CORONA VIRUS: LOCK DOWN IN THE DUBAI

Photo: @tgfromdubai (IG) Many of us moved into the year 2020 with lots of enthusiasm and excitement. Along the way, corona virus came visiting. With plans shattered, life turned up side down, routines disrupted and the normal way of life as we know abruptly altered; all we can pray for is for this pandemic to get resolved. The first call to action in curbing the spread of the infection is isolation or quarantine. A new term- social distancing is now the main deal. Countries the world over went into partial or total lockdown. The UAE, where I live in went into partial lockdown. At first, the severity of the situation didn't hit home for me until Dubai went into full lockdown. With movement restricted except shopping for grocery and medicine only for limited time with Police permit. Staying indoors hasn't been a palatable experience. I'm an ambivert so I do well staying indoors or outdoor which ever way I find myself. But the extended stay indoors with no where

MERRY CHRISTMAS FRIENDS!

Mall of the Emirates  Mall of the Emirates    This post came a little late. I wanted to post it on Christmas day. My laziness and procrastination won't let me live. Anyway, if you live in Dubai, you would know that celebrating the holidays here is so lit! Like seriously! It's the reason why Dubai is one of the top destinations for visitors who like to go abroad to spend the holidays. Everywhere is glittery and sparkly and you would wish Christmas holidays doesn't go away.    Entrance to Marina Mall   One of the pecs of being here during the holidays is the fact that you get to snap tons of beautiful pictures with the countless and numerous beautiful decorations all around the city. From the Dubai Mall area to Marina and JBR, there isn't a shortage of colourful background for photos. Sometimes, I wish I was rich already, lol. I would employ an assistant to follow me about to take me a hundred photos. mirror selfie  Marina Mall   So

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT DO IN DUBAI

Dubai is such a beautiful and accommodating city for everyone. Getting to experience the wonderful culture is always something to look forward to. When one visits a new city its always advisable to learn the dos and donts of the people so as not to get in trouble with the law. Here are five things you should avoid while in Dubai. PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTION As accommodating as Dubai with all its glamour and openness, you should not go kissing or smooching in public even if you are a married couple.  A brief none- sexualise hug here and there is harmless but don't get carried away. Save all that for your privacy. ALCHOHOL CONSUMPTION  Drinking alchohol in public and non designated locations like park, malls, beaches, etc is highly prohibited. You can get into trouble with the law. If you must then it has to be in hotels where it is allowed. FYI, you actually need a licence to comsume alcohol especially within the privacy of your apartment. EATING, DRINKING AND SMOKIN

TRIP TO LEKKI CONSERVATION CENTRE IN MY DIY ANKARA A-LINE OFF SHOULDER DRESS

Myself and the new Rotaract crews.     My pretty off-shoulder Ankara dress   . Happy sunday!  Today was a memorable and exciting day for me. First I was at church earlier. And i kept getting a lot of compliments on my Ankara dress. I had some left over fabrics so I decided to make this simple off-shoulder short dress yesterday.   I wasn't sure it would turn out too fine but I wore it to church service. Later on, I met with a friend I haven't seen in a long time at Lekki Conservation Center for a hangout with Rotaract club, Lekki.   It's my first time there at the centre. I have heard a lot about it. It's a wild life and forestry centre managed by the state government and Chevron. They had a big old looking tortoise, walking around and some peacocks. My first time to see a peacock. They were colourful and beautiful. I was told the tortoise was 97 years old!  Woow! That sounds crazy! Unbelievable. When i was a kid in primary school, my mum cooked tort

RESTAURANT REVIEW: CASPER & GAMBINI'S VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS

Hi,  Happy independence Nigeria, not like i'm totally proud to be Nigerian at this point in time. Naija hasn't given me anything to be proud of anyway. That aside, yeah! It's another week coming to an end and it's always exciting bbecause it's the weekend. LOCATION   I was at this restaurant a few days ago, Casper and Gambini's In Victoria Island. It's close to Spice Route and Mitsubishi show room, at Agoro Odiyan street, off Adeola Odeku. I checked it out with my friend. It was relatively late like 11pm/12am.  AMBIENCE / HOSPITALITY   It's a nice place with an earthy and homely kitchen-inspired interior and beautiful ambience. The waiters were polite and really courteous. They have an extensive and impressive menu, from starters to house special main course. Took me a while to pick my choice. The bush girl in me was looking for something familiar, lol. That's why most times, i'd rather stick to my seafood specialty. It's quick and popu

NATURAL OR SYNTHETIC? WHAT'S THE BEST MAKEUP BRUSH FOR YOU?

There are countless brands of makeup brushes out there. Picking the best that guarantees your makeup application goes smoothly is of utmost importance. Some of us get carried away by the brand name because of its longstanding reputation. Like I tell people, don't always concentrate on the brand names. What more important is the materials the product is made of. Even a less known or inexpensive brand may have turn out better to suit your needs.  So the question is, how do I know which makeup brush is best for me? Which of these should I purchase? Generally, there are two types of makeup brushes. Natural and synthetic makeup brushes. One may have a preference for the natural or synthetic type. I like to use both alternatively because they work differently depending on which makeup products I am applying on my skin. NATURAL BRUSHES Natural brushes are made from animal hair like sheep, goats, etc. They are very soft and silky on the skin. These brushes are fluffy and puff

HOME SWEET HOME: BACK IN WARRI

Feels so wonderful to be back in Warri after being away for months. You know, Lagos have a way of getting under your skin and you could almost get sucked into the frenzy. Been living in Lagos for about a year now and I am almost turning into an Eko babe o, lol. But as usual Warri no dey carry last, so am still much of a Warri babe front and centre.    Been a long while I had a road trip. I took a vehicle from the island to Warri. The idea of taking a cab to the airport, the distance from the island and these Nigerian airlines and their unreliability. Your flight getting postponed or cancelled for one reason or the other without any compensation or explanations. We all know how incompetent our local airlines are. You know the routine, so I quietly packed my baggage and all to one transport company. The journey was smooth and bump-less because the vehicle wa fresh and new. It rained on the way and I tried not to sleep but the air'conditioner will not let me live. I dozed

BEAUTY/MAKEUP MUST-HAVE : RUBY WOO LIPSTICK BY MAC

Ruby Woo by MAC cosmetics is one of the few lipstick in a shade of red that looks good on all skin tone. And it suits just anyone which is totally great and this should be a must-have for every lady except you don't use lipsticks at all. If not, you have to get one. This is my favourite lipstick. The first day it tried it on, about two years ago I instantly fell in love with that colour. It made my lips pop. Prior to that I never liked red lipsticks. I have really full lips and I felt using red would make it look too big and funny. So I always shied away from any shade of red.  Ruby Woo has a drying effect . For a perfect look, you will have to top it on your lip like 4 times, since it's a matte lipstick. For some ladies, it may feel a bit too dry . But for me, it's ok. I love matte lipstick more than glossy lipstick. The wonderful thing about Ruby woo is that it can stay on your lip all day long without even a touch up and it doesn't smear easily. A few comp

ORI (UNPROCESSED RAW SHEABUTTER) VERY GOOD FOR NATURAL HAIR

Sheabutter is a plant fat extracted from the African Shea Tree which is found mostly in West Africa. It is commonly called 'Ori'. It is a very good remedy for natural hair. Grooming our typical kinky natural hair can be a task for some of us and finding the best ingredients and products to take care of natural African textured hair may not come easy. The predominant products out there were basically made for non-kinky hair types. There are lots of ladies who are going natural and most do no want to apply chemical product like relaxers to make their easier to work with. That is why is always recommend you go for organic and non processed ingredients if you you trying to groom your natural hair.    I have been using natural unprocessed raw sheabutter on my natural  hair for about 5 years consistently and I discovered that ori (raw shea butter) helps to thicken and give more volume to the hair. I have a really thick and kinky type of hair and it gets a little difficult to

SPRAY PERFUMES ON THE PULSE POINTS AND MAKE THE SCENT LAST LONGER

I have never been a fan of perfumes back then . I am more into  body spray because the alcoholic content of perfumes give me headache.  A close friend of mine though, has been spoiling me continuously with some bottles recently and my love for perfume is growing. Right now my favourite scent is Hugo Boss' Nuit and Elizabeth Arden's 5th Avenue.      Perfume or body spray are signature scents for individuals. Possessing a particularly scent can become a kind of personal trademark.  What comes to  mind is how to prolong the scent all day without having to tuck in your perfume bottles everywhere you go. This may not be much of a problem for those who prefer to go for expensive perfumes because their scents tend to last longer without spraying much .              BEHIND THE EARS, ON THE WRISTS , ANKLES             INSIDE THE ELBOWS,  BEHIND THE KNEES, COLLAR BONES  To make the scent of your perfume and body spray last longer, these are the most effective poi
