NATURAL OR SYNTHETIC? WHAT'S THE BEST MAKEUP BRUSH FOR YOU?

There are countless brands of makeup brushes out there. Picking the best that guarantees your makeup application goes smoothly is of utmost importance. Some of us get carried away by the brand name because of its longstanding reputation. Like I tell people, don't always concentrate on the brand names. What more important is the materials the product is made of. Even a less known or inexpensive brand may have turn out better to suit your needs.

So the question is, how do I know which makeup brush is best for me? Which of these should I purchase? Generally, there are two types of makeup brushes. Natural and synthetic makeup brushes. One may have a preference for the natural or synthetic type. I like to use both alternatively because they work differently depending on which makeup products I am applying on my skin.

NATURAL BRUSHES
Natural brushes are made from animal hair like sheep, goats, etc. They are very soft and silky on the skin. These brushes are fluffy and puffy. They are best used for powder makeup like bronzer, eye shadow, highlighter, face powder, e.t.c because they tend to blend the makeup without getting too much of it stuck in the brushes. I don't like using natural brushes for liquid makeup products like concealer or liquid foundation because they absorb too much of makeup and it gets clogged and you have to wash it off to be able to use if efficiently. They are usually more expensive and last longer than the synthetic types. Also, they may cause allergies to some people because they are made from animal hair. Popular brands include Maybelline, Too-faced.

SYNTHETIC BRUSHES
For people with allergies, it's more comfortable to stick with synthetic brushes. They are mostly made from plastic, nylon and polyester filaments. They are flat and not puffy. They aren't as soft as natural brushes but are still good enough. They are easier to wash and are cheap to purchase compared to natural brushes. Synthetic brushes work well with liquid and cream makeup because they are not so absorbent and do not get clogged. They don't work well with powder makeup because the synthetic materials do not pick up the powder products effectively. Popular brands includes Urban decay, MAC, Mars, Bobbi Brown.

I use both, synthetic for liquid and cream based makeup and natural for powder makeup. So which of these brushes are your favourite?

SUGAR SCRUB: This how i made a simple 4-Ingredients DIY Sugar Scrub

I have a strict routine on exfoliating at least once every week. This morning I decided to do a diy sugar scrub. I did a face scrub with no essential oil. It included sugar, green tea, baking powder and water. All I did was mix them all with water. I wanted to see how it felt without adding any essential oil. Surprisingly after washing the sugar off, it felt as good as a professionally prepared scrub. I was so impressed that I had to use it again to do a total body, neck to feet scrub. Now I realised you could still do a scrub without using any oil and it will turn out as nice. You can give it a try. But ensure you scrub gently because the sugar feels more abrasive without oil.  You can let us know about your experience using an oil free sugar scrub.

PRODUCT REVIEW : BIO-OIL FOR SCAR, SUNBURN, STRETCH MARKS

Bio-oil is one of my favourite oil. I have been using it for years since my university days. This moisturising oil is formulated to hydrate the skin, clear off stretch mark, sunburn , acne, scars, uneven skin tone, aging  and dehydrated skin. It is so light and it gets absorbed easily into the skin and it is non greasy.  Bio oil is one product I can authoritatively recommended for any one who is suffering from the above mentioned skin issues.   I used to have uneven complexion and dark knuckles way back. I tried bio-oil and it worked. The  dark knuckles was from using different products randomly when I was still a teen. A lot of these products had hydroquinone which discoloured my skin . So I can say this product is a very suitable for damaged skin from skin bleaching . It can help to blend and repair the damage from  chemicals. It's an effective remedy for stretch marks. I have been lucky not to have much stretch marks but due to the nature of the skin, I still see a few slight
